CANBERRA READY TO HOST WORLD CUP FOOTBALL
Canberra will contribute $100 million towards a new, world-class football stadium in the national capital, if Australia wins the right to host the FIFA World Cup football tournament in either 2018 or 2022.
Announcing the pledge today, Chief Minister Jon Stanhope said the Territory had agreed to a cost-sharing arrangement with the Commonwealth on the stadium.

Canberra Stadium is a 25,000 capacity stadium that was initially developed in 1977 and was formally known as the Bruce Stadium. It has an interesting history, having been through three phases since it was first developed. It began life as an athletics stadium.
